Every year FALA New York presents its "Making It" series. Each "Making It" session focuses on a topic of interest for its members. A leader in the topic area selected will speak with members about how to carve a path in a particular field, succeed in a certain role, or how to apply, recruit, and/or interview for a specific position.
If you are interested in this series, please indicate topic areas you're interested in on the form here.
Based on popular demand, FALA New York is restarting its formal mentorship program. If you are interested in participating, please fill out this form. If you are not an active member of FALA New York, you will not be paired with a mentor. To learn more about signing up for membership, read our membership brochure here or email info@falanewyork.org.
Heart of Dinner (www.heartofdinner.org) is a care package delivery service to isolated and homebound elders. Heart of Dinner started by serving Manhattan's Chinatown and surrounding areas and has since expanded to serve beneficiaries across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and The Bronx, with a focus on providing care and essential nourishment for those with low-to-no income. Heart of Dinner's efforts have been featured in Fortune and Glamour magazines.
Every week, Heart of Dinner delivers about 700 care packages, each paired with a handwritten note and decorated bag. These bags are essential to Heart of Dinner's mission, delivering both nutrition and warmth. Heart of Dinner relies on supporters like you to help us fulfill their weekly need of nearly 700 decorated bags.
FALA New York and New York Law School's APALSA will be co-hosting a "Day of Service" on April 2, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at the law school. Lawyers and law students will come together to decorate bags and write notes for Heart of Dinner's beneficiaries. FALA New York will coordinate delivery of the bags at Heart of Dinner's drop-off locations. Join us for a day of service by RSVP'g here; upon RSVP'g, you will then be sent another form to fill out for NYLS's security entrance.
New York Law School's APALSA is led by their president, Elizabeth de Leon, a Pinay law student and soon-to-be lawyer. Ms. de Leon currently externs at the NYC Law Department and is in her third year of law school. During Elizabeth’s presidency, she and her board have been dedicated to promoting inclusivity within the AAPI community and leveraging their platform to raise awareness about issues affecting Asian Americans. This year, APALSA has had the privilege of collaborating with multiple organizations in the local Asian American legal community, strengthening connections between NYLS students and the broader legal field. Their efforts aim to create a lasting impact and foster meaningful engagement for the future generation of lawyers.
Save the date for a weekend to remember - From June 20, 2025 to June 22, 2025, FALA New York will be co-hosting the National Filipino American Lawyers Association's (NFALA) Mid-Year Conference and NFALA-ganza! If you are interested in assisting the FALA New York Board and NFALA with planning the event or volunteering at the event itself, please email info@falanewyork.org.
The Summit is an annual three-day conference that brings together local Filipino bar association affiliates of NFALA together for a weekend of inspiring speakers, panels, and workshops. The Summit provides an opportunity for the Filipino legal community to foster meaningful connections with attorneys in private practice, in-house, public service, and the judiciary. This year’s Summit will open with a Friday evening reception at a law firm in midtown Manhattan, followed by FALA New York’s Annual Dinner celebration, wherein it awards NFALA Foundation’s Robin Tizón Mangaser Scholarship. The Summit will continue with a Saturday series of panels, presentations, and workshops, followed by NFALA-ganza!, a celebratory musical performance honoring NFALA’s LGBTQIA+ network for Pride Month. NFALA-ganza! itself is a fundraiser for NFALA Foundation’s LGBTQIA+ Scholarship and will be held this year at Stonewall Inn. Finally, the Summit will close with a brunch gathering on Sunday.
