PresidentKristine Rose Cabaron ItliongKristine Itliong is a law clerk in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Prior to being a law clerk, Kristine was an associate at Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP in product liability and consumer protection litigation. While in private practice, Kristine maintained an active pro bono practice, with an emphasis on civil rights litigation. For example, Kristine served as lead trial counsel for the plaintiff in a prisoners' civil rights case in the Southern District of New York, wherein she obtained a jury verdict for her client on excessive force claims against several corrections officers. Kristine graduated cum laude from Fordham University School of Law, where she was a board member of the Dispute Resolution Society, a member of Moot Court, and a research fellow and student advisory board member of the Urban Law Center. While in law school, Kristine was a judicial intern for the Honorable Paul G. Gardephe, U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of New York. Upon graduating, she received the National Association of Women Lawyers Award. Kristine was also a national semi-finalist in the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association’s Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition in 2018. Kristine has been a member of FALA New York since 2019 and is involved with the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, National Filipino American Lawyers Association, and Asian American Bar Association of New York. Before law school, Kristine was a financial management consultant at KPMG LLP, where she was a liaison to her client's subsidiaries in Asia, Europe, and Africa. President-ElectJenna AgatepJenna is an associate at Wilson Elser, where she practices defense-side labor and employment law. Prior to joining Wilson Elser, Jenna was an associate for Spivak Lipton and Zalkind Duncan & Bernstein LLP, where she practiced plaintiff-side labor and employment law and civil rights litigation, respectively. Jenna received her law degree in 2021 from Northeastern University School of Law, where she was an editor of the Northeastern University Law Review and member of the Community Business Clinic. Jenna was also a judicial intern for the Honorable Denise J. Casper, U.S. District Judge for the District of Massachusetts. During law school she received Northeastern’s Denise Carty-Bennia Memorial Award. Jenna received her master’s in Fashion Law (with an emphasis on workers rights) from Fordham University School of Law in 2017 and graduated cum laude from Marist College in 2014. Jenna has been a member of FALA New York since 2020 and is involved with the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, National Filipino American Lawyers Association, and Asian American Bar Association of New York. Jenna is the recipient of the [year] Asian American Law Fund of New York’s Public Interest Scholarship, and FALA New York’s [year] Robin Mangaser Tizon Memorial Scholarship for her volunteer work with the Asian community, including the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns. Jenna interned with AABANY’s Pro Bono and Community Service Committee, where she focused on servicing Asian communities in Queens that were hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. Immediate Past PresidentLouise M. LingatLouise M. Lingat is a Senior Court Attorney with the Office of Court Administration (OCA). She is currently Court Attorney to the Honorable Adetokunbo O. Fasanya in Queens County Family Court. Louise is also an Adjunct Professor of Legal Writing at Cardozo School of Law. Prior to being a court attorney, Louise previously worked for the child protective agency of New York City, known as Administration for Children’s Service/NYC Children’s Services (ACS) as an agency attorney handling child abuse and neglect cases. Louise obtained her J.D. from Maurice A. Deane School of Law, Hofstra University and obtained her B.A. in Political Science and Theology from Fordham University. While in law school, Louise was a research assistant of Hofstra Law Clinic. Louise is a published author of a note entitled Keeping the Family Together: Why New York Must Amend Evidence Rules to Protect a Parent's Right to be a Parent with Family Court Review, An Interdisciplinary Journal (2019). Louise has been a member of FALA New York since 2018. While serving as FALA New York's President-Elect, Louise was the co-chair of the 2023 Pinay Powerhouse Conference hosted by FALA New York, which featured the theme PiNaY State of Mind and key note speaker NAPABA President Anna Mercado Clark and businesswoman Loida Lewis. During her time as President, Louise ushered in a marked increase in FALA New York's engagement with the wider Filipino community, including with the Philippine Consulate and the Filipino American Democrats, as well as FALA New York's visibility with other Asian bar affiliates, Louise is currently a Volunteer Parishioner with St. Bartholomew's Roman Catholic Church. She is fluent in Tagalog. |
Membership SecretaryCaitlin RamiroCaitlin Ramiro is an associate in Brown Rudnick's Brand & Reputation Management group. She was previously a summer associate with the firm. While at Fordham Law, Caitlin served as a judicial intern to the Hon. Denny Chin, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Caitlin was also a criminal defense clinic legal intern with the Lincoln Center Legal Services and a research assistant for Professor Jed Shugerman. She was vice president of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association, captain for the National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition, and associate editor of the Fordham Urban Law Journal. Prior to law school, Caitlin was a paralegal at Kelley Drye & Warren LLP and Davis & Gilbert LLP. Caitlin has been a member of FALA New York since [year]. Communications SecretaryCatherine "Cat" GumarinCat Gumarin is a Manager in the Legal Department at Gershwin Entertainment. Prior to her role at Gershwin, Cat was a Coordinator in Business and Legal Affairs at Tribeca. While in law school, Cat interned at Tribeca, NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, and California Lawyers for the Arts. Cat was also an Intellectual Property Student Associate at Miller Korzenik Sommers Rayman LLP and a Legal Manager for the Asian American International Film Festival. Cat obtained her J.D. from New York Law School. At New York Law School, Cat held leadership roles including Founding President of the Intellectual Property Law Society, Co-President of the Media, Entertainment, and Fashion Law Association, and President of the Asian American Law Students Association. She also contributed as a Teaching Assistant in Contracts Drafting, Entertainment Law, Intellectual Property, and Licensing and Drafting. Cat has been a member of FALA New York since 2023. Cat was the inaugural Law School Liaison and initiated FALA New York's law school speaker series. Before her legal studies, Cat worked as a Disney Cast Member in Beijing, China and was a Contributing Writer to the New York Times. Recording SecretaryKirsten TamayoKirsten J. Tamayo is currently an Assistant District Attorney at the Kings County District Attorney’s Office and was formerly an Assistant Corporation Counsel at the New York City Law Department’s Family Court Division. While an ADA, Kirsten has prosecuted a number of trials, including the trial of a Brooklyn man who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for assaulting two Modell’s Sporting Goods employees in Williamsburg. Kirsten attended the City University of New York School of Law and Manhattanville College. While in law school, Kirsten interned with Legal Aid Society and Legal Services NYC. Kirsten was Co-President of the Civil Service Association, a member of the CUNY Law Mock Trial Team, a board member of the Law Enforcement and Prosecution Initiative, and a coordinator for Court Advocates Project. Kirsten has been a board member of FALA New York since 2023. While on the board, Kirsten has ensured the board's timely arrival at events (no Filipino time!) and streamlined the board's membership application process. She currently resides in the Bronx with her partner, two birds, and a rabbit. |
TreasurerChristopher ArcitioChristopher Arcitio is a Litigation Attorney with the law firm of Kaufman Dolowich LLP, where he focuses his practice on commercial litigation, professional liability, general liability and insurance coverage and litigation. Christopher is also an Adjunct Professor at The Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and St. John's University School of Law. Christopher earned his B.A. from University of San Diego and a J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law. During law school, Christopher was a law clerk for a major insurance company and a securities litigation law firm. He served as President of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association, as Editor-in-Chief for the school’s Commercial Division Online Law Report, and as Editor for their American Bankruptcy Institute Law Review. Christopher competed in the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association Law Foundation's annual The Judge Thomas Tang and Dr. Pearl Tang Moot Court Competition, receiving the award for Best Brief and earning the title of Northeast Regional Champion. He regularly serves as the Alumni Coach for St. John's law students competing in the moot court competitions. In 2024, he served as the Regional Co-Coordinator for Northeast Regional Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition in New York, New York. He has recently been invited to sit on the National Planning Committee for the Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition. Christopher is a published author of an article entitled Unraveling the Inequitable Nature of the Model Minority: Asian Americans Deserve Affirmative Action with the Tennessee Journal of Race, Gender and Social Justice. He authored a Thomas Reuters article entitled The Impact of RICO Lawsuits on Bodily Injury Claims: Guidance for Insurers. Christopher has been a member of FALA New York since 2023. Chris is also an inaugural member of the National Filipino American Lawyers Association Leadership Academy and a member of the American Bar Association. He is also a Board Director for St. John's Alumni Association and for St. John's Alumni Association Alumni of Color Chapter. He regularly has speaking engagements on various topics, including on effective mentoring, succeeding in the legal profession as a minority attorney. Law School LiaisonTatjana Calimpong-BurkeTatjana Calimpong-Burke is a defense attorney with the law firm of Kaufman Dolowich & Voluck LLP and focuses her practice on employment law. Tatjana defends clients in cases involving wage and hour claims, allegations of negligent hiring, and housing discrimination claims. She drafts workplace policies and employment agreements for employers. Additionally, Tatjana advises employers on discrimination matters and on violations of federal and state civil rights statutes, under the New York State and City Human Rights laws. Tatjana received her J.D. and B.A. from Pace University. During law school, Tatjana was a law clerk for the Children’s Law Center of California, where she was oversaw cases representing nonminor dependent foster youth in extended foster care proceedings. Barbara HayesBarbara Hayes is a Senior Associate in the real estate practice group of Hogan Lovells, where she represents clients in all phases of acquisition, disposition, development and financing transactions. Barbara has more than 15 years of experience in the practice of law . The breadth of her experience includes complex commercial real estate transactions, civil litigation, and working as in-house counsel for an esteemed hospitality company based in New York City. Barbara obtained her J.D. from the Maurice A. Dean School of Law at Hofstra University. Prior to law school, Barbara was a paralegal in the real estate practice group of Herrick Feinstein LLP. Barbara graduated cum laude from Boston College, where she earned her B.A. in Communication and Media Studies. Barbara has been a board member and Director of FALA New York since 2021. As a Director, Barbara has overseen several FALA New York milestones, including the 2023 Pinay Powerhouse Conference. |
Ariel RisingerAriel Risinger is Corporate Counsel for Amazon's Vehicle Sales division. Ariel brings nearly a decade of experience in the practice of law, during which Ariel has counseled four companies in various in-house roles focused on commercial, tech, and insurance transactions and legal operations. Ariel also brings experience in private practice, both as a transactions lawyer and a litigation paralegal. Ariel has been a board member of FALA New York since 2017. As President-Elect and President of FALA New York during the board's 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 terms, Ariel led the organization through a time of uncertainty about the developing COVID-19 pandemic and the future of bar associations. Ariel frequently speaks on the impact of technology on the practice and business of law, including as a panelist at the Asian American Bar Association of New York's annual fall conference. Ariel has taught Social Media Ethics of Newly-Admitted Lawyers at Practising Law Institute three times a year since 2020. Ariel is a nationally-ranked competitive powerlifter, holding numerous NJ State records. She is also the proud mother of two adopted cats, Baby T and Nat the Cat. Ariel earned her B.A. in Art History in 2003 from Smith College and her J.D. in 2015 from Seton Hall University School of Law. During her last semester of law school, Ariel clerked at the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxemburg for Judge Borg Barthet (ret.) of Malta. Jon LimJonathan Lim is currently an Assistant Chief Counsel for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at its Newark, NJ Field Office. Jonathan joined DHS in 2022 after working at the Wolper Law Group. He also managed his own small firm in New York City and served as a Law and Policy Analyst for the University of Maryland Center for Health and Homeland Security. He is also a Certified Internet Privacy Professional (CIPP). Jonathan spent ten years in the United States Army as a Combat Medic, where he deployed with the 82nd Airborne Division to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, among other missions. When not practicing law, he is an active member of several Veteran-centered non-profit organizations, such as the Armed Services Arts Partnership and Team Rubicon. Jonathan graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law and earned his B.A. from Rutgers University. As a law student, Jonathan received a Certificate of Specialized Legal Studies in Cybersecurity and Crisis Management Law, served as a fellow for the Committee on Veterans Affairs of the United States House of Representatives, and was an intern for the Law Reform Commission of Hong Kong. Jonathan has been a member of FALA New York since 2021, and this is his second year serving as a Director. During his time as a board member, Jonathan founded FALA New York's A'po Hiking Society and led the group's first hike Upstate. Jonathan speaks Tagalog and Mandarin Chinese. |
Johan TatoyJohan is Counsel in the Litigation Department at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP and has litigated matters involving allegations of securities fraud, environmental damage, and price fixing. Johan also brings 10 years' experience as an attorney, including his time as a seconded attorney in the litigation departments of two companies. Johan maintains an active pro bono practice, representing clients in asylum applications, housing actions, and challenges to criminal convictions. Through his pro bono practice, Johan has assisted in drafting amicus briefs and petitions for certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court and state supreme courts, including an amicus brief in support of affirmative action in United States v. Fisher, and in opposition to the addition of a citizenship question in Dep’t of Commerce v. New York. Johan served as a law clerk to the Hon. Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in the Northern District of California. He obtained his B.A. in Classical Studies and History, summa cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010, and his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2013. While at Columbia, he served as a managing director for the Columbia Human Rights Law Review. Johan has been a member of FALA New York since 2015. During his time as President-Elect and President, Johan fostered the growth of a slate of young lawyer board members who had previously never served the FALA New York Board. Owing to his contributions to FALA New York, FALA New York maintains an active pipeline of membership.
